◆fact n.
She remembered nothing (about him) except that he livesin Paris.
The judge paid no attention to that she had just lost her husband.
正:The judge paid no attention to the fact that she had just lost her husband.
The fact that he has no girl-friends worried him a lot.
3. 用于 in fact / as a matter of fact, 意为“事实上”、“实际上”。如:
In fact, he didn’t come at all.
A:You must have told her about it today.
B:As a matter of fact, I haven’t.
◆fail v.
He failed in business.
He failed in everything he tried.
He failed (in) his driving-test.
She failed (in) her exams again.
The teacher failed half the class.
I passed the written paper but failed on my oral.
The teacher failed me on the written paper.
He failed to pass the exam.
He failed to get there on time.
Don’t fail to ring me up.
He failed to persuade her.
正:He failed in persuading her.
