　　以前在拳击比赛中，如果一方想挑战另一方，就把自己的帽子扔进拳击台里，这里的ring指“拳击台”。现在这个成语的意思是说某人欣然迎战，接受挑战。
　　例句：
　　1.I think you’d make a great class president. You should think about throwing your hat into the ring.
　　2.You know they’re looking for volunteers for a mission to Mars. I think I’m going to throw my hat into the ring.
　　注意：
　　另一个短语to throw in the towel也是源于拳击运动，但是含义完全不一样。这个短语的意思是因为困难而放弃了。
　　例句：
　　1.I’ve tried to solve this maths problem for days but I’m going to have to throw in the towel. I just can’t figure it out.
　　2.That was a poor performance by the team today. It looks like they just threw in the towel when they went behind.
